(Armor of God – part 3)
Taking up the Shield of Faith: (Eph. 6:16), In Paul's day, the armies would shoot arrows of fire. The shields used to protect the soldiers were large enough that they could take refuge behind them, and have full body protection from these arrows.
So our shield of faith is designed by God to Intercept and extinguish the fiery darts of Satan. Those temptations designed to cause us to sin, thus making us ineffective or completely useless in our Spiritual battle.
“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Th 3:3)
Our part is to get ahold on this promise of Christ, to Stand in Faith. Our faith that will protect us from the evil darts, is a Lifestyle of absolute, unwavering conviction that God not only is able to deliver us, but WILL deliver us from the evil power.
The faith in the victory of our risen and exalted Jesus Christ over all powers of Satan. Faith in Jesus Christ ensures us, that we can stand in him, and He will shield us from the fiery darts of Satan.
Helmet of Salvation: (Eph.6:17), “And take up the Helmet of Salvation.” To “take” means to “receive from the hands of another.” It is taking for oneself all that Christ in his saving work offers. Jesus in His death on the cross made available Salvation to all, but we must reach out and take it personally for ourselves.
This helmet of salvation gives us Jesus living in us. It is our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you do not have Christ in your heart, you cannot stand against Satan and his evil power. It is only through Christ we can have all the defensive pieces of armor: Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Faith and the most important of all the defensive pieces... Salvation.
Since Jesus is the Truth (Jn. 14:6), Righteousness is through Faith in Christ (Rom. 3:22), and the Peace we find in the Son of God – Jesus of Nazareth (Gal. 2:20).
So, you can see how Christ ties all the defensive weapons together and enables us thru Faith and belief in Christ along with the Word of God (Scriptures), to use these weapons in a defensive stance against ALL evil powers and influences.
Continue following on in the next lesson, as we start covering the offensive pieces in the Armor of God.
